Welcome to Year 3 and 4
This term our topic is called “Raging Rivers”. In this fascinating topic, we will be learning about where rivers and coasts actually are, some of the forces that help create and shape these important features, and the effects they have on the world around them. We will also learn about the formation and features of a river. We will follow its journey to the sea and discover the role of the water cycle. Rivers have long been a source of inspiration for artists. In art this term we will consider light and colour in Monet’s River Thames series work and how his new style gave rise to the term “Impressionism”. We will learn about the life and work of this great artist and create our own river artworks. In music, we will be thinking about how we can use voices and instruments to explore pitch and rhythm.
We will work on our imaginative description whilst looking at the book ‘Float’. We will aim to practise our story writing skills by using similes, alliteration and a range of sentence openers. We will link our work to our topic by incorporating lots of opportunities for cross-curricular writing across a range of genres, such as explanation texts about the water cycle.
This term in numeracy we will be consolidating and extending our knowledge of fractions. We will be using the Maths Superpowers to help with our reasoning and will use stem sentences to help with our written explanations.
